The Quest for the Perfect Sang Har Noodles: Restoran Greenview, PJ
When I started my quest for the perfect Sang Har Noodles, everybody told me I must go to Restoran Greenview, near the Rothman’s Roundabout. I nodded and smiled and put it off for as long as I could, as I didn’t want to admit to them that I wasn’t sure where the Rothman’s Roundatbout was!
It was the last night before my younger sister ‘Kukkie’ was to fly back to the States. She is an expert on the PJ/SS2 area, so I seized the opportunity and said “Hey! Let’s go try Greenview!”
So the three Victor sisters set off for a girly evening of feasting on fresh water prawns.

We parked, and chose to eat in the open air restaurant. From experience, we’ve found Chinese Restaurants tend to have temperatures close to sub-zero in their air-conditioned areas.
It was relatively quiet, but then again we did arrive rather late, close to 9.30 pm. Now after all the hype and recommendations, I was expecting it to be amazing. This place had a lot to live up to, and I couldn’t wait to be satisfied.
Our Sang Har Meen arrived and from a distance it looked promising. However, upon close inspection at our table, we had to squint to see the prawns, and there was definitely an overload of noodles.

They were mesely, little suckers that looked as if they died a few years to early. Okay, maybe I’m exaggerating a little, but really, they were not very big at all.

There was minimal flesh, and even less roe in the head. You know what that means.

The sauce was bland, and definitely missing that rich, prawn flavour. Oh yes, something was missing, and it was definitely that oomph! I am of course comparing this directly to the previous two places I tried (see posts before this) that served gigantic, freshwater prawns.
I do give them credit for the huge portion though. More than enough to feed 3 hungry girls.

We also tried their Kam Heung La la, which was pretty good.

Fresh clamswok-fried in a dark, sticky, spicy sauce with dried prawns, chilli and curry leaves.

The baby Kai Lan stir-fried with garlic was also very tasty.

The green’s were cooked just right, with a little crunch, and large chunks of garlic that melted in our mouths.
I could tell from the few dishes we tried, that yes, the food was good. I bet if we ordered seafood, or typical Chinese dishes we would have thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. I do however think that the Sang Har Meen is nothing to shout about.
Well, it looks like the quest was still on… and who better to ask for help then the ‘archive of restaurants’, the very knowledgeable Boolicious of masak-masak. With a snap of her pretty fingers and a few tweets, it was set. We were to head out to Batu Caves, to a magical place called Pan Heong. Coming soon.

Hey, they were a little smaller than I expected. Fresh, but kinda like underdeveloped. Overall food was good tho, and yes, now I know where Rothman’s Roundabout is, I’ll go back to try other stuff

for the price we paid for the noodles and what we got, don’t think it’s high on my list of places to go back to..
